Introduction, study of tools and implements used for harvesting and post harvest handling including, packing and drying equipments like driers, dehydrators, including packing and storage materials and storage conditions for fruit crops. Study of pre-harvest factors influencing the quality of drug material like stage of harvest, environmental conditions etc. Study of post-harvest practices like cleaning, cutting drying, grading packing and storage. Study of stages and methods of harvesting.
Study of product based harvest indices for cashew nut, areca nut, ginger and turmeric. Processing of chali and kalipak from arecanut and kernel of cashew nut. Grading, packing and storage of chali and Kalipak of arecanut. Preparation of ginger for fresh ginger purpose. Processing of bleached or dried ginger. Grading packing storage of dried ginger, curing of turmeric- cleaning, boiling polishing, drying colouring, grading and packing of cured turmeric.
